Cupcake’s 5th Birthday

Renee's Frozen Birthday Party

Some time back, not too long ago (that was July. Erm, not that long ago), we celebrated Renee’s 5th Birthday. I told myself I would get this post done within July, and then before September (that was when my 2 other kids celebrated birthdays), and then I was swarm with many things… no excuses, I am just glad to have finally set aside time to have this post up before Christmas 🙂

Birthday celebrations in our family are usually spread across a few days because we are a big family and the kids different groups of friends. To help keep the celebrations more manageable, my preference is to split them up instead of having one big party. This year, we had 3 sessions of celebrations with 3 groups of people. I initially planned to do 3 posts on the 3 celebrations but since I am so very late, I guess it would be more efficient to document them together in a single post.

Celebration 1

We decided to have a mini tea party for Renee to get together with her previous childcare friend. She missed them dearly and I believed it would the party all the more special if her little friends could come.  I wasn’t too confident if many of her ex-classmates would turn up. After all, Renee had left the school for more than half a year. To higher our chances, we’d started sending out invitations early.

Renee wrote on the invitation cards with glitter pens.

You should be able to tell the theme of the party by now. Yes, it’s FROZEN! And, what’s a Frozen party without a character dress, right? Our little queen elsa however, had 2 elsa dresses.

I splurged a little and got Renee this pretty little dress from Qoo10.

And, because it’s meimei’s birthday, the jiejie got an Elsa dress too. 🙂

But I wasn’t the only person who decided to slurged on her on her birthday. Our dear Aunty Jesmine got her this dress up set, completed with matching tiara, wand and an adorable white pigtail (just like Elsa of Frozen).

It was a tea party for a bunch of 5 yos, so we prepared some snacks and treats for the kids.

Some good old fashioned snacks for the young and the young at heart. The fav snack was Mamee. Everyone loves it!

To add in some fun element to the simple set up, I threw in our cupcake wheel to hold the smaller cookies and candies.

Since it was a Frozen Party, we would need a cake that could top off the theme. I was eyeing a 200 dollars customized fondant cake but got inspired by a photo from The Jbabies’ instagram and decided to do something similar.

We got a plain cake from The Icing Room and Frozen Character Figurines from Qoo10, and got the girls to start decorating Renee’s cake.

Tadahh! Pretty neat aint it!

And then came the friends! I was so glad we had people coming. Like I mentioned earlier, I was rather worried with the turn out but thank God most of Renee’s good friends came including our Pastor’s son and our neighbour.

Our fav baby Isis came in a matching elsa dress too!

As for the programme for the day, we had our chief planner, Miss Shanice Foo to draft out the plan.

That was what they would like to have, but that seemed too elaborate to me, so we skipped a few items. For the actual party, we had movie screening, pinata session and craft activity.

Our Frozen Pinata

We made the Pinata out of a cake box. Looks pretty cool right? It’s really simple to do but due to my crazy schedule back in June, we took about a week, over a few short sessions to get it done. If you are keen to make a pinata on your own, I’ve got a post on it here.

Craft Activity: Snowflake felt charms

If you would like to make some snowflake charms with your child, I have blogged down the step-by-step here. Because snowflakes charms are such a hit with little girls, I have another version using recycle plastic here.

And that was Day 1 of 3 celebrations.

Celebration 2

We had a simple celebration at home with my sister’s family. The little girl beside Chubby in the photo below is Rara, our little cousin. So cute, right. She is 2 and already able to string out a few proper sentences. She refers to us (my hubs, the kids and I) as “My Family”. According to my sister, Rara’s definition of immediate family includes us too (aww, good to be up a band).

Celebration 3

On her actual birthday, Renee went to school in her full queen elsa gear.

I joined her during tea break time with cakes, goodie bags and glitter tattoos.

Being kiasu, I bought 2 cakes for Renee’s mini celebration in school. But we only managed to finish 1 of the 2 cakes in class,

After the celebration in school, I brought Renee out for late lunch at her favourite sushi shop. Guess where?

We had a date with her daddy for the Maleficent movie in the evening, but there was still time, so we went shopping, bought a new dress and cardi, then took a leisure train ride down to the cinema to wait for daddy.

The movie was great. Though I think I enjoyed it more than Renee did. I was really tired by then, but the night was still young for the father and child, so we went on for supper and Pasar Malam.

Renee is truly a daddy’s girl. Sometimes I feel a tinge of jealousy just looking at them enjoying each other. You know, I worked really hard for the birthday party in school but all these ain’t comparable to having her dad back from work. O well, not a bad thing anyway.

And, that concluded Renee’s 5th birthday. We went home tired but very happy 🙂
