A couple of weeks ago, Nat and I attended a preview class at the newly opened LA Madison School. It was a busy busy busy morning for the little boy, as there was so many activities and excitement going on.
We attended the class for 18 months to 3 years old where the focus was on the development of functional independency and sensorial and cognitive skills, through fun and intentional learning opportunities.
I especially like the use their thematic approach to teaching. The session we attended was based on an Oceanic theme, where the teachers used stories, songs and dance to introduce the variety and beauty of the sea creatures to the children.
The oceanic theme was expanded into meaning activities where the children get to learn about shapes and colours while working on their fine motor skills through an assortment of craft activities.
And, it was a wrap! The preview class ended with song, dance and bubbles!
The preview we attended was conducted in both English and Mandarin. However, the actual programme will be conducted in English or Mandarin for the entire 2 hour session per day and rotated daily. LA Madison combines montessori and Reggio Emilia approach in early childhood education in their enrichment programmes for children age 18 months to 6 years old.
